Darem’s University of Health at the OneStop Buford Senior Center was a success!
The 47 older adults who attended this ten-week long program, which started on January 20th, 2023, celebrated their graduation this past April 7th, 2023. Congratulations to them!
Over the past ten weeks, we had the opportunity to share information with these olde4r adults about health related topics such as osteoporosis, fall prevention, heart disease, eye care, sleep, food safety, cognitive decline, stroke, physical activity, and advanced planning.
The program participants enriched our classes with their life experiences, and were incredibly involved in learning about their health and how they can continue to age in wellness. Their participation and involvement was paramount to the success of the program, and their feedback was extremely positive. One of our graduates, Mrs. Santamaria, shared her experience at the graduation ceremony “I’m very grateful for the classes…the stroke class saved my life as the day of that class I was having symptoms of stroke that I could identify thanks to the information presented in class…I went to the doctor and received timely care for my stroke…”. Examples like this reinforce the importance of implementing adequately tailored health education programs in our communities, and support the significance of our mission at Darem.
We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to impact the older adult population in Gwinnett County, GA, by sharing information that can empower them to take charge of their health and their health decisions.
